Weekly Quote 23/52

A room without books is like a body without a soul.

I always found it interesting that some people find reading boring. And I asked myself; where does that come from? Is it that a book has gotten so old fashioned?
I don’t really think that that is the main point. There are just so many distractions. Most people feel the constant need to keep up with everything that is going on, through WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and so on.
But once in a while we all need a break. A break from our own world or the world in general. We need to unpluck.
And reading is a very good way to do just that.
Reading; a time to forget your own life for a moment. Get away from all the stress. Or just enjoy yourself.
Some people even say that reading makes you a boring person.
But where does that make sense?
Through reading you get to know situations you have never experienced before. You see the faults of others and how people react to mistakes and learn from them. Reading gives you the opportunity to be living someone else’s life. Even if it is only for a time being.
No matter which book or what kind of book you read, eventually you will learn something. Small or big. It doesn’t matter.
Often you won’t even notice it. Only later on in your life it will strict that exactly this happened before to other people.
And just seeing things from a different perspective makes you grow. One of the most important things; perspective.
Everyone has their own opinion. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that other opinions are wrong (probably not).
But by trying to understand the people who have a different opinion you can improve your opinion. There is never a complete right or wrong.
Books are a source of comfort for me.
“I am writing this on vacation on Juist, a small German Island. Up here nothing really is going on. You have the ocean and a small town. I come home from a windy stroll along the seaside and find nothing more appealing than to grab a good book, a cup of tea and forget my surroundings and dive into another world.” ~Me (first attempt)
A really good book should make you think.  Laugh. Cry. Make you feel like you are part of the story.

Off now, to read “For whom the bell tolls” by Ernest Hemingway. What are you reading? What is your favourite book?

See you soon at our next destination!

  1. Well rightly said. Books are essential part of our life atleast for me. It helps to build up our character and we become the altogether different person.
Presently I am reading three books..
    1) Pride and Prejudice.
    2) The 7 Habits of highly effective people.
    3) How to influence people and win friends.
